The news agency said dozens of police and about 20 protesters were injured after some of the 8,000 protestors attacked riot police, who responded with teargas, water cannon and rubber bullets.

The country’s government has come under increasing pressure from miners to halt the coal industry reforms where state-run four mines will be closed.

The European Union requires the Polish government to be rid of loss-making state industry before it joins the union next year.
